A634.9.4.RB – A Reflection of our Learning

A Reflection of our Learning Ethics and Corporate Responsibility has been for some reason that I cannot explain has been very challenging to me in comparison with the other ten courses that I have completed so far.  At first, my first impression of the course was that how complicated can the course be.  I have lived my life and placed myself on high moral and ethical standards based on my mother’s influence, my teachers, instructors, mentors, etc.  But I was wrong.  I found myself digging very hard, reading the instructions and still found myself sometimes confused as to how to phrase my thoughts and put them into words. This course had made me look deeper into who I am and the ethical and moral standards that I uphold.  I have always believed that e thics is that of our moral beliefs that conform to the way we live and the way we create our world through the choices we make every day.  We are the best of who we are when we ethically live our lives in excellence, compassion, acco

A634.8.3.RB – Gun Control: What is the Answer?

Gun Control: What is the Answer? According to LaFollette (2007), the question of “Do citizens have a right to bear arms?” is not a constitutional question but a moral one.  LaFollette (2007) further stated that defenders of private ownership of guns claimed that “we have a moral right – as well as constitutional” – and those rights are not ordinary but are fundamentals.  Fundamental rights, in general, have boundaries and conditions but most specifically, those rights can be revoked or overridden when the application of those rights are detrimental or damaging to other law abiding citizens.             I have always been a proponent of moderation in every aspect like private ownership of guns.  I am not against those who own guns privately.  Some of our family members own guns, but that does not mean that my husband and I have to own one too.             My personal experience with guns or a gun was not positive.  First, my son almost died because of outrageous mother who pointe

A634.7.4.RB – Ethics and Behaviors

Ethics and Behaviors According to LaFollette (2007), a psychological egoist claims to define the reason why we behave the way we do and points out that we act congruence to our self-interest yet cannot clearly explain the rationale behind our interests.  Ethical egoist, on the other hand, claims that there is only one moral standard that is to say that we should act and behave in manners that maximize our self-interest (LaFollette, 2007).  LaFollette (2007) further stated that although morality does not dictate that we have to sacrifice our self-interest for others and visa vi, that does not mean that we have to take advantage of other’s vulnerability nor mistreat and abuse others. All management team, as well as the members of the workforce of every organization, must have a formalized code to live by for a successful organization to operate ethically and morally.  It is of utmost importance that all members of the workforce from the CEO and members of the executive team to the

A634.6.3.RB – What are Virtues?

What are Virtues?             Virtue is a conduct that conforms to an accepted standard of right and wrong ( Merriam-Webster).   My mother has the most significant influence in my life when it comes to living and committing to practice and maintaining a positive, forgiving, and courageous life.  She had taught my siblings that and me we should persevere in achieving or attaining our personal and career meaningful goals regardless of fear, self-doubt,  or obstacles that we may encounter along the way. While taking Benjamin Franklin’s virtue quiz, I did not realize that I have to ponder on the things that I would really do when faced with the specific situation.  Before taking the quiz, my first thought was that it should be a breeze to take it since I have been living my life ethically and virtuously.  But, I was wrong.  For every question, I have sincerely read the options twice to deeply understand and recollect what I have done in the past and I would I would honestly do. My r

A634.5.4.RB – Is Marketing Evil

Is Marketing Evil? In our past studies, we have touched on the relationship between relativism and ethics.  To review, relativism is a belief that right and wrong, the methodology of justification, and standards of reasoning are the results of differing principles that their authority is confined to the context giving rise to them ( Baghramian and Carter, 2015) .  Ethics, on the other hand, are the standards of right and wrong that are defined as what humans are obliged to do when it comes to the obligations, rights, and benefits to fairness and/or specific virtues (Velasquez et al., n.d.).  Therefore, in its operational definition, ethical relativism exists when two individuals or two differing cultures or beliefs have conflicting positions about the morality or ethical standard of a specific action or behavior, of which both parties, beliefs, or cultures are equally right.  Suffice to say that ethical relativism plays a vital role in every personal or business dealing we take mo

A634.4.4.RB – Is Affirmative Action Ethical?

Is Affirmative Action Ethical?             According to LaFollette (2007), affirmative action is the practice of giving favorable consideration to women in hiring and minorities in school placements.  Affirmative action is in one way or another a form of discriminatory act and unethical.  Tiatorio (n.d.) stated that ethical behavior in its purest form is a balance between self-interest and group responsibility, predominantly a behavior learned to stand in contradiction to an instinct.  Ethics are the standards of right and wrong that are described as what humans are obliged to do when it comes to the obligations, rights, and benefits to fairness and/or specific virtues (Claire et al., n.d.).              President John F. Kennedy and President Lyndon B. Johnson issued Executive Order 10925 and Executive Order 11246 that mandated a “non-discriminatory policies in regards to race religion, gender and country of origin (Dotigney, 2018).  I believe that the original purpose of affirma

A634.3.4.RB – The Harder They Fall

According to Yukl, (2012), Leadership is the process of influencing others to understand and agree on the ways to accomplish objectives and the process of facilitating individual and collective efforts to achieve shared goals (p. 7).  To be able to analyze and assess the effectiveness of and different approaches to leadership, it is of the utmost importance to discuss various ways of how leadership is defined.  Yukl (2012) indicated that leadership has many modes of denotation for different individuals. Therefore behavioral scientists and practitioners believe that leadership is a vital phenomenon that can be defined in various ways.  Many organizations, may it be a not-for-profit, private businesses or governmental, benefit greatly when their workforce can collaborate to achieve organizational goals and have the capacity to get to know each other and understand how to work cohesively.  Different studies conducted by psychologists indicated that an individual’s ethical behavior is
